What Makes a Pillow Ergonomic?
An ergonomic pillow should help you find a comfortable head and neck position for your usual sleeping posture. Its height, shape and response to pressure matter more than the word “ergonomic” on a label.
Another Way to Support Your Neck
Italian pocket spring construction
Small, individually pocketed springs respond independently as pressure changes across the pillow. This creates a different support feel from a continuous foam core.
Morpheus: softer fiber comfort
Morpheus models combine the spring core with a soft fiber layer.
Viscospring: contouring memory foam
Viscospring models pair the spring core with memory foam, giving a different surface response.
Independently Assessed Ergonomic Design
Selected products or components also carry OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certification. Check the individual product details to see which certifications apply. OEKO-TEX is a textile safety certification, not a medical endorsement.
Research on a Spring Pillow and Neck Discomfort
A published randomized controlled trial studied the Viscospring PostuRite spring pillow in people with chronic nonspecific neck pain. Compared with education alone, the study reported improved outcomes for some pain measures.
Important distinction
The study examined a specific pillow and intervention. Its findings do not establish that every NOXNOX Morpheus or Viscospring model treats neck pain, nor that spring pillows outperform all other ergonomic pillows.

Real Customer Reviews
An ergonomic pillow is designed with head and neck support in mind. The appropriate shape, height and feel depend on the sleeper, so not every ergonomic pillow suits everyone.
They can help provide a comfortable head and neck position. The right height and fit are important. A pillow cannot guarantee relief from neck pain or replace medical assessment.
These terms are often used in retail for supportive pillow designs. Neither term alone confirms a particular medical benefit. Look for specific construction information and relevant independent assessments.
Pocket springs respond individually to pressure. Memory foam contours as it compresses. Viscospring designs combine both technologies; Morpheus uses a different comfort layer.
Selected models have model-specific ErgoCert ergonomic ratings. The Signature product page reports five stars and the Firenze page reports four. Other certifications must be checked by product.
There is no universal best model. Side sleepers commonly need sufficient pillow height to support their head without excessive neck tilt. Your shoulder width and mattress affect the required height.
Adjustability can help you fit a pillow to your preferred position, but the ability to change its height does not automatically establish an independent ergonomic rating.
No pillow should be presented as a cure. Persistent or severe neck pain deserves assessment by a qualified professional. Individual product research should not be generalized to all pillow models.
